Rudi Buchanan-Strewe
Born in New Zealand in the early eighties, Rudi comes from strong artistic pedigree - most notably his father, New Zealand Artist, Dean Buchanan. Rudi has rapidly established his own name for his beautiful work in cast bronze, oxidized hand beaten copper and recycled steel. His work is strongly influenced by the natural world around him with a particular emphasis on New Zealand’s unique and distinctive native flora. His wall hung oxidized copper pieces are one off’s and create relief and interest to a space either indoors or outdoors.
His “shadow plants and branches” are so called because the shadow they create on the wall are often just as interesting as the primary piece itself. Rudi’s work can be seen in galleries throughout New Zealand. In 2011 Rudi won the Carmela McHardy Merit Award in steel, and was a finalist in the 2014 and 2012 Clifton Art Awards. Black Door Gallery is proud to exhibit a selection of recent work by Rudi. |
