Sally Fagence
Sally Fagence is a full-time North Shore artist. She has always painted, but professionally for the past 19 years. She works from her studio over looking native bush, where she finds inspiration for the subjects she paints. She is involved in environmental painting to help with projects such as the Tawharanui ‘Art in the Woolshed exhibition’,’Keep our Kauri Standing’ project and the ‘Sculpture on the Shore’ exhibition which provides for the Woman’s Refuge. She also contributes to the Northshore Hospice exhibition in Orewa.
After her success of her ‘sepia series’, she is experimenting with recycled wine barrel staves made into sculptural wall pieces. These are richly painted and incorporate gold/silver leaf, compound, and other materials. The style ranges from abstracts to semi abstracts. Sally is mostly self-taught and feels her lack of formal training allows her to work intuitively thus giving her more artistic freedom. Texture and light feature foremost in her work in which she likes to take the ‘appreciative’ on a journey to other places within their own experiences or into their’ own interpretation of her work. She tutors from her home studio and is represented by a number of Auckland galleries. |
