Alex DiMercurio is a Wellington-based artist who creates immersive cloud and seascape paintings using bold palette knife techniques and layered, atmospheric surfaces. Her work explores light, movement, and refracted colour in nature, capturing emotional responses to shifting sky and sea.
Each painting begins with a feeling, translated into texture, colour, and atmosphere. Collectors often describe her work as having a levitating presence that shifts with distance and light. Having lived across continents and spent five years sailing at sea, her practice is shaped by direct experience of vast, volatile natural environments. The ocean and sky become emotional spaces in her work, often holding the quiet aftermath of storm—light returning and clarity emerging. She studied at Massey University in Wellington and undertook fine art study in Paris and Cannes, including time in Montmartre ateliers and drawing at the Louvre. Alex's work has received multiple awards, including the 2026 Wellington Art Show Gold Award. |
