Bill Burke is a Nelson based artist, who creates exuberant painterly landscapes in vibrant oil paint. Burke's light and colour effects are immediately alluring, his scenes are alive with uplifting palettes and gestural paint applications. The artist is continually inspired by the unique light and colour of New Zealand.
From an early age Bill Burke’s passion and focus was drawing and painting. He began drawing with pen & ink while at Nelson College, holding his first exhibition at age 19. Decades of art making followed, first in watercolor for many years before introducing pastels and oil paint. Bill’s decades of foundational painting honed technical skills that are evident in his works today. He now paints with a refreshing balance of realism with and painterly approaches suitable for capturing the light filtering through a garden scene or across a natural vista . While landscape is the predominant subject matter for the artist, he too is skilled in capturing the essential subtleties of human form and body language in select portrait pieces. |
