CAM munroe
Kapiti-based artist Cam Munroe creates richly layered mixed media paintings that evoke the textures and mysteries of ancient landscapes. Over three decades, she has developed a distinctive practice exploring time, memory, and human presence through abstract forms and enigmatic symbols.
Originally from Australia, Munroe studied fine arts in Sydney before relocating to New Zealand in 1994. Her work is influenced by prehistoric landscapes, spiritual traces, and ancient markings, prompting questions about their meanings across time. By layering impasto textures with acrylic, ink, and oil, Munroe creates intricate, tactile compositions where lettering acts as subtle signposts within a visual narrative. Her use of wire brushes and sandpaper adds further depth and dimension. A finalist in numerous prestigious art awards, including the Parkin Drawing Prize and the Molly Morpeth Canaday Awards, Munroe’s work is held in public and private collections across New Zealand and internationally, including the Wallace Arts Trust and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Australia. |
