Cruz Jimenez creates luminous, abstract works that explore memory, ancestry, and the quiet mysteries of the cosmos. |
Cruz Jimenez is a Californian-born artist who has lived and worked in Auckland, New Zealand for over two decades. His practice is grounded in his Mexican heritage and a lifelong fascination with the natural and celestial worlds—drawing on memories, ancestral stories, and the quiet pull of stars, tides, unseen energies and deep time.
Using oil and wax, Cruz creates evocative abstract paintings and sculptures that explore colour, texture, and intuition. Trained in colour theory at Parsons School of Design in New York, his work blends careful study with emotional depth, resulting in pieces that feel both personal and expansive. His evolving practice embraces experimentation and the unknown. Through each work, Cruz opens space for reflection and poetic connections—between people, histories, and the unseen forces that shape our lives. Whether seen as portals or meditations, Cruz Jimenez’s works open up a deeper sense of place- within and beyond. |
