Deborah Moss creates intuitive, layered paintings that weave gesture, texture, and memory into quiet revelations of the natural world. |
Deborah Moss creates expressive, layered paintings from her countryside studio in Wainui, North Auckland.
Inspired by the vitality of her rural surroundings, she explores the meeting point between the natural world and her inner vision through energetic gestures, poetic mark-making, and richly textured surfaces. Her process is intuitive and organic, allowing each work to evolve as a sensory journey of discovery and quiet revelation. She exhibits widely in New Zealand and Australia, with works held in collections worldwide, and has been recognised with awards including the Craigs Investment Partners Prize and as a finalist in the Molly Morpeth Canaday Award, National Contemporary Art Award, and Parkin Drawing Prize. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a MA (Hons) from the University of Auckland. With a background in journalism, gallery direction, and academic study, Deborah has deepened her practice through international mentorships and education. Through her Planting Hope initiative, she plants a native tree for every artwork sold, entwining her creative practice with environmental restoration. |
