Angeles creates compelling monochrome portraits that explore glamour, intimacy, and anonymity, capturing the tension between how we present ourselves and how we are perceived.
Her work examines identity, ego, and behaviour through the lens of social performance, drawing on existential philosophy and 20th-century aesthetics to reflect both personal moments and the spectacle of contemporary media and culture. With over 22 years of art practice and training at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, Dita Angeles has received numerous awards and has been a finalist in the 2024 Adam Portraiture Award and highly commended in the Stuff Art Aotearoa Art Award. Her works are held in public and private collections in Aotearoa and internationally. |
