GRAEME SMALLFIELD
Graeme Smallfield is a photorealist oil painter whose work offers a quietly powerful lens on the everyday. With a deep reverence for light, form, and stillness, his paintings of fruit, florals, and domestic still lifes carry a quiet intensity that invites slow contemplation. Working in the tradition of the Old Masters, Graeme employs classical atelier techniques to achieve luminous, meticulous works that celebrate the overlooked beauty of the ordinary.
Art has always been a central thread in Graeme’s life. He began his creative journey as a photographic retoucher, mastering the use of dyes and fine brushes on colour transparency film. This led to an award-winning career in digital special effects and photography- fields in which his precision and visual sensitivity were further honed. Yet it was painting that ultimately called him back. Returning to the brush- this time with oils- Graeme found renewed creative purpose in the slow, tactile discipline of traditional painting. Today, his works are held in private and public collections throughout New Zealand and internationally. |
Through meticulously rendered oil paintings, Graeme Smallfield explores the nuances of light, shadow, and the quiet stories contained in everyday objects. |
