Jill Bryce
Auckland based artist Jill Bryce produces work in the mediums of painting and ceramic sculpture. Through her sculptural work she explores fluid and dynamic forms that find their inspiration in rhythmic gymnastics.
Bryce's sculptures are hand built and feature playful dance like forms that curve and twist. Each piece is a continuous ribbon of clay that is further enhanced by the vibrant glazes she uses to complete the form. From lime green, to deep cobalts and exciting reds, Bryce references the compelling forms that gymnasts create in their performance routines with colourful satin ribbons. Her bold colour palettes are informed by her background in painting. Bryce began experimentation with ceramics only 5 years ago and has developed a distinct style and approach. She was awarded the Abstract Award in the 2019 Estuary Art Awards and the Greater Auckland Ceramic Award (2nd Place, 2019). She exhibits her work in select galleries in New Zealand. |
