Karin Barr is a glass artist based in the Waikato, known for her playful, abstract forms and strong, simple lines. Her works often incorporate subtle figurative elements, offering narrative entry points that invite deeper reflection.
Originally from Germany, Karin moved to New Zealand in 1994. She discovered her passion for sculpture in 2003 through working with stone, before transitioning to glass in 2009—a material that continues to inspire her with its versatility and light-capturing qualities. Her Observer figures are shaped from wax with minimal intervention, capturing human presence through gesture and form. Her latest series, Day Dreamer, reflects on long-held dreams and the courage it takes to pursue them. Combining blown and cast glass, these works evoke shifting skies, expansive landscapes, and the quiet strength of introspection—encouraging viewers to reconnect with their own aspirations. Karin’s work offers quiet meditations on memory, presence, and possibility—drawing on personal experience to speak to universal themes of transformation and resilience. |
