MADEline Prowd
Madeline Prowd is an early career Auckland-based glass artist and designer, currently working out of Monmouth Glass Studio.
Prowd's practice is heavily influenced by traditional Italian glassblowing techniques, such as the finessed approach to cane and murrine. These ancient Italian patterning techniques are combined with the artist's contemporary eye, resulting in works with a minimalist aesthetic where the focus is on clean lines and a muted palette. Prowd's current exhibition works explore pattern through line density and the optical qualities unique to glass. Delicate line-work is celebrated in these works. Prowd investigates the unique ways glass can bend light and alter underlying patterns. Works offer bold contrasts of white lines over black and the addition of clear cane and murrine to create absorbing landscapes of tactile pattern. Prowd completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the Australian National University. followed by a two-year Associate Training Program in the Glass Studio at JamFactory. She has since worked as a studio assistant at the JamFactory, completed numerous residencies at acclaimed international glass studios such as the Canberra Glassworks, The Glass Factory, Boda Glasbruk, Sweden and Berlin's Glas e.V . She has also worked as a teaching assistant at the The Corning Museum of Glass. |
