Sylvia Sinel
Waikato based ceramicist Sylvia Sinel creates diverse and unique work that explores the potential of the sculptural form in ceramics. Each of Sinel's works offer a conceptual reading or narrative, encouraging the viewer to consider the underlying story.
Sinel's pieces often present with a sense of fun and whimsy and always incorporate unique glazes that she develops herself to accentuate the underlying form. The variety in Sinel's practice is likely the result of her spending time studying and developing a foundation in not just ceramics but also sculpture, painting, physics, chemistry and poetry. Sinel gained a Diploma in Ceramic art from Otago Polytechnic and graduated with a recognition of achievement. Later, Sinel was also chosen as one of the finalists in Rick Rudd’s emerging practitioner in clay award. Sinel’s interdisciplinary art practice spans over 30 years and her art is found in many private collections in Europe and Australasia. |
