TE RONGO KIRKWOOD
Te Rongo Kirkwood is an Auckland based mixed media artist specialising in combining art glass with various materials such as steel, fibre and wood.
She is of Māori (Wai o hua, Ngai Tai, Kawerau a Maki), English, and Scottish heritage - a blend that has shaped both her work and identity. Te Rongo’s work comes from a universal perspective drawing on archetypal and esoteric symbolism making artworks grounded in a Māori world view. Te Rongo’s aim is to create enduring legacy pieces that reflect the worlds cultural evolution at this moment in time underpinned by an indigenous world view. Te Rongo's studio is based in Silverdale, Auckland and her works are typically reserved for commissions or institutional exhibitions. Her work has been exhibited internationally over the last 16 years in various museums and collections in cities such as Vancouver, San Francisco, Portland, Canberra, London, Scotland, Singapore, Hawaii, and of course across New Zealand. |
