Auckland based artist Tyla Bow creates sculptural works across glass and ceramics, drawing inspiration from the ocean and its wildlife, particularly sharks and other marine subjects. Her practice combines expressive sculptural form with richly coloured lustres and carefully developed surfaces, capturing the movement, texture and character of life beneath the water.
Working between glass and ceramics allows Bow to explore the distinctive qualities of each material, from the fluidity and translucency of glass to the tactile, dimensional qualities of clay. Her forms are both contemporary and organic, with surface treatments adding depth, colour and a sense of movement. Her practice is informed by her background in Marine Biology and extensive experience as a scuba diver, translating a deep knowledge and fascination with the underwater world into distinctive works that celebrate the beauty, complexity and fragility of our oceans. |
