AshEley Elizabeth
Christchurch based sculptor, Asheley Elizabeth creates mixed media relief sculptures that take reference from nature. From timber ribbons that organically twist and turn, to intricate layered leaf forms, these works recall the delicate structures of growth that underpin our natural world. The works hover between abstraction and representation, implying plant forms or leaf skeletons yet still leaving room for the viewers interpretation.
Given the environmental themes behind the work, it is fitting that much of Asheley Elizabeth's materials are sourced from nature or are re-claimed. Light becomes a medium for the artist as well, shadow play is thoughtfully integrated into the works to create drama and visual interest. Construction too is a focus, each work showcasing a skillful integration of materials with a technical finish. Asheley Elizabeth is a full time artist, she trained in Toronto, Canada (B.F.A.), and now works from her studio based in Christchurch, New Zealand. She exhibits her work in select galleries in New Zealand. |
