Brian Chrystall

Brian, a retired scientist and research manager is now committed full time to his art. He is a multi-disciplinary artist working in the mediums of wood, copper and cast lead crystal. Chrystall's works can be found in private collections in New Zealand and overseas. Black Door Gallery is proud to represent the sculptural glass pieces of this talented artist.

Chrystall favours the one off, over repeat use of a mold to make multiples. This leads Chrystall's glass works to be unique creations. His style can be classified as sculptural glass with narratives embedded in each work which are frequently playful, imaginative and relatable.

As past President of the New Zealand Society of Artists in Glass and current treasurer, Brian has a keen interest in the contemporary glass medium in a New Zealand context. He has a passion for encouraging other artists to work together and share ideas, resources and facilities.
