Ché Rogers is a Taranaki-based multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores rhythm, movement, and repetition through layered abstract compositions. Scratching through painted surfaces to reveal metallic layers beneath, Rogers creates energetic works that pulse with colour, pattern, and light, drawing connections between sound, nature, and geometric form.
Using line, pattern, and repetition, his works create a strong sense of rhythm, movement, and vibration. Circular forms echo the shape of vinyl records, compact discs, and speaker cones, giving the paintings an energetic visual pulse. Though static, the works suggest motion and resonance through their carefully constructed surfaces and reflective qualities. Ideas of interconnectedness sit at the centre of Rogers’ practice. Concentric circles radiate and contract across his compositions, recalling natural patterns such as rippling water, ocean waves, sunlight, and the growth rings of trees. These repeated forms speak to time, energy, and the accumulation of experience, while also hinting at something more cosmic — portals into vast and expanding spaces beyond the everyday. Alongside his visual arts practice, Rogers has a background in music, which subtly informs the rhythm and flow within his work. He is also influenced by the clean simplicity of mid-century minimalism, the playfulness of Op and Pop Art, and the bold colour and geometric abstraction of Russian Constructivism and Orphism. |
