James Ballantyne
James Ballantyne is a self-taught artist who has been painting for over 20 years. Working predominately in oil on canvas, Ballantyne creates impressive photo-realist scenes that celebrate the beauty of our local coastlines.
James Ballantyne first trained in 3D animation early in his career, where he worked on TV shows and films. In 2013, he decided to pick up the paint brush full time. Now based in Orewa, Ballantyne finds endless inspiration in his local surroundings which he translates to the canvas, capturing the stunning natural beauty of the many beaches that are found on the Hibiscus Coast. James Ballantyne was a finalist in the Adam Portrait Award (2016), and he exhibits his work in galleries around New Zealand. |
