John Hanson
Award winning glass designer John Hanson has had a lifelong passion for working with glass, melting and transforming it into beautiful sculptures.
John Hanson works under his own name for his sculptural fine art works, but when collaborating with his wife Frances Hanson, who is too an award winning glass artist, he can be identified under the name of Vetro Design. The name Vetro was inspired from a visit to Venice and the Island of Murano. Vetro is the Italian word for glass. Hanson's work continues to evolve, increasingly incorporating a range of glass techniques into one final piece- he seamlessly integrates, fusing with laminating, slumping, fritta and other techniques. His pieces make a statement with simple elegant designs and strong colouration. John is active in the New Zealand glass community, regularly participating in art shows and awards both as a participating artist and as a chairing judge. He has won numerous accolades for his glass designs and his works are held in private collections throughout New Zealand. Recently he won the Supreme Award and 1st prize in glass at the Franklin Awards. |
