Kaye McGarva
Kaye McGarva is an artist based in Havelock North who produces paintings that explore the effects of light and shadow, illusion and perception. As the artist describes, her works "hover between abstract and representational to create a sense of the uncanny".
To create her work, McGarva uses spray paint techniques. By applying paint to her canvases in a mist she is able to create subtle tonal graduation suitable for the depiction of creased paper, folding fabric and textured surfaces. McGarva finds reference in the movements of Abstract Expressionism and Op Art. Kay McGarva was awarded a 2019 Walker & Hall Waiheke Art Award and was a finalist in the 2019 Parkin Drawing Prize. She exhibits her work in galleries around New Zealand and Internationally in Brussels. She is the Owner and Director of Muse Gallery Hawkes Bay. |
