Kylie Matheson
Dunedin based ceramicist Kylie Matheson creates whimsical sculptures that find their inspiration in the animal kingdom and the tactile qualities of clay. From foxes, to rabbits, dogs and bears, Matheson's characters surprise and delight.
Matheson began working primarily in the medium of clay in 2011 and began developing a distinct style of ceramic sculpture. She aims to create pieces that communicate an emotion through the animal subject, creating a point of connection for the viewer. She is adept in creating charming characters that conjure a smile and feel like the protagonist of their own narrative. Matheson gained a Diploma in Ceramics at Otago Polytechnic (2014). She works from her home studio in Dunedin and exhibits her work in select galleries around New Zealand. |
