LYNETTE HIRST
Based in the picturesque town of Tasman, Lynette Hirst has dedicated over 16 years to the art of ceramics.
Her extensive experience is particularly highlighted by her mastery of various techniques, with a focus on the intricate Japanese method known as nerikomi. This sophisticated technique involves layering and melding hand-colored clays to create richly textured, multi-colored patterns. By skillfully slicing and rearranging these layers, Lynette produces stunning, abstract designs that are as unique as they are beautiful. Nerikomi techniques feature prominently in many of her works, but Lynette’s artistry extends beyond this method. She also employs hand-building, carving, and the application of tactile glazes to further enhance her creations. Each piece is crafted with meticulous care, reflecting a harmonious blend of traditional techniques and innovative approaches. In Lynette’s words, "Every item I create is designed, coloured, formed, structured, melded or decorated and fired by my hand. All pieces are totally unique. I consult with my eye and the natural beauty around me to create an abstract alternative." Her dedication and artistic vision have earned her a treasured place in homes across New Zealand and internationally. |
