SUE HAWKer
Kerikeri based glass artist Sue Hawker creates sculptural glass works primarily in the technique of Pâte de verre (powdered glass), giving the work a characteristic sugar-like texture. Much of Sue's work finds its inspiration in the natural world with references to flora and fauna readily found in her forms. Sue aims to push the ancient technique of Pâte de verre in a contemporary direction, offering works of impressive scale, surprising compositions and vibrant colour combinations.
“Glass is a mesmerising medium with its refractive, reflective and transparent qualities. I harness these qualities when designing and creating my forms. In fact, I create art with light itself”. Sue Hawker has exhibited in galleries throughout Australasia and has recieved numerous accolades for her techniques, including mention from the head Curator of the Corning Glass Museum, NY, who acknowledged Hawker’s "radical reinterpretation of the traditional style and techniques of pate de verre and thus pioneering achievement of developing an entirely new way of working." |
