Alice Toomer
Alice Toomer is a Dunedin based artist who produces hyper-realistic acrylic paintings featuring desserts and confectionery. The emerging artist is only in her early 20's, yet has already gained a reputation for her realistic approach to lighting and perspective.
Since commencing painting some 10 years ago, Alice has met much success. She won 1st Prize in the 2010 Otago Art Society’s 'Youth Art Awards,' and in the same year had a work selected and sold in the high profile 'Dunedin City Art Awards.' In 2012, she held her first solo exhibition and had the distinction of having all 14 pieces on display being sold within a day of the exhibition opening. Over the years she has been invited to feature as guest emerging artist in various shows around the South Island. She has also had works auctioned off at the distinguished Wanaka 'Aspiring Art Awards.' At the 2016 Awards, she entered a painting into the show which sold and also won the 'People's Choice Award,' and also won it for the second year in a row in 2017. In mid 2015, Alice was contacted by renowned New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell when he offered to act as a mentor to assist her as a young 'up and coming' New Zealand artist. This is a great opportunity for Alice to further immerse herself into the art scene, and will allow her to develop various projects that will help to broaden her artistic skills and experiences. Alice Toomer exhibits her paintings in New Zealand galleries and has featured her works in various annual group exhibitions. Alice recently graduated from Massey University Wellington, majoring in a Bachelor of Creative Media Production and specialising in Film and Video Production. Alice Toomer is the daughter of acclaimed New Zealand landscape painter John Toomer. |
